the food at this place was extraordinary. Both the brasserie and the one star Michelin restaurant were way beyond our expectations. Staff was very friendly and the room was large and well-equipped and modernized. Highly recommended!

With arguably the most impressive Roman heritage outside Rome, Nîmes is truly a sight to behold. Its most awe-inspiring structure is the virtually intact Roman amphitheater. The gladiators are long gone, but a matador statue outside gives an idea of its current use, which is most celebrated during the annual Feria.
Another amazing Roman monument is the Maison Carrée, a colonnaded temple. The Temple of Diana is less well preserved, but still maintains some of its arched roof and interior details. The peaceful, surrounding Fontaine Gardens cover the grounds of the former Roman baths and still contain elegant water features.
Speaking of water, the incredible Pont du Gard is a triple-arched Roman aqueduct crossing a river northeast of Nîmes. Other Roman remains include the Tour Magne, and 2 gates that allowed access through the city walls.
The Nîmes Archaeological Museum in the former Jesuit college provides background to this history and also houses the Warrior of Grezan, a pre-Roman statue. Another museum houses a fine arts collection, and the simple cathedral is also worth visiting.
In addition to plenty of restaurants and bars, Nîmes has a good range of accommodations. Booking.com’s options include luxury hotels by Parc Expo Nimes, and cheap apartments near the train station, all easily accessible from Nîmes-Alès-Camargue-Cévennes Airport.

So many historical attractions to visit, all within easy walking distance from the Royal Hotel. Public Transport was plentiful as was the bars, restaurants and cafés. Favourite place we visited was the Arena, we also enjoyed a visit to the Roman Aqueduct, a 30 minute drive away. Everything else, we walked to. A really good variety of restaurants serving very reasonably priced meals, plus our hotel had a restaurant. Nowhere to avoid in our opinion, everyone we met was happy, helpful and kind. We would happily visit Nimes again in the future and recommend the city.

Amazing town with antiquities, parks & museums, and also a super hub with great rail and bus connections. Walkable (even in the mid summer heat) with lots of places to eat or drink out and watch the world go by.

Full of Roman history, monuments in Nimes are within a walkable distance. Worth buying the Discovery pass which gets you into the amphitheatre, Roman museum, Maisonette Carree and Tour Magne. The pass can be bought from whichever site you first visit.
Also visit the Jardins de la Fontaine. The park is extensive and very impressive and you can see the natural spring that used to be the water source. We found the Castellum where the Romans brought the water supply into Nimes via the Point du Gard. From a central chamber the water was fed out to areas in Nimes through lead pipes. It's amazing to still see where the outlets for the pipes were.
From the bus station in Nimes we went on bus number 121 to Pont du Gard. This is one trip that's a must!! We got off at Vers Pont du Gard. The bus stop names are well displayed on the bus well in advance of the stop. From there was about a 10 minute walk to the visitor centre and another 10 to the aqueduct. There is a cinema and museum in the visitor centre. The museum was quite interesting but the film in the cinema seemed a bit pointless.
We also took the 130 bus to Arles. We bought a Liberty pass that got us into 4 monuments and 1 museum. We did the amphitheatre and the theatre, where we sat with our picnic lunch. The cryptoportiques, where you get to wander in the underground cellars, was more extensive than we had thought it would be. We decided on the Alyscamps for our 4th monument visit. Tombs of Roman and Christians lined the avenue leading out of Arles. Would have liked some more information on what some of the inscriptions could have been.
In Nimes visit Les Halles. This indoor food market has a superb display of produce and even if you are not buying, is well worth the visit.

Nimes is great for a few days; enough museums and Roman history to keep anyone amused for a couple of days (including children) - the town itself is relatively small but has good connections by bus and train to other areas worth exploring. The Tourist Information will provide advice on how to get there.
A combined ticket for the Roman remains and the museum is great value - especially if you engage with the audio guides.

A very clean well presented city , easy to walk around when in the old quarters. Good for shopping , eating and historical places . We visited Le Maison Carree . The arena , the Jardins de la Fontaine. On a triple combined ticket purchased on line . A very pleasant stay
The location is perfect to visit the center of Nimes, walking distance to all attractions. The owner met us at our arrival because parking is tough in this area. It is the on a top floor of the building, so if you have big heavy luggages , it can be an issue, but other than that, everything is wonderful in this apartment. It even has a jacuzzi to soak in after a long day of sightseeing. Very spacious interior space with a nice view to the colosseum.
The hotel was in an incredible location. We arrived by train and it was a 5 minute walk to the hotel. And, the Nîmes Arène is just across the street. The room was very clean, and it was nice to have a little kitchenette. The staff was very helpful and welcoming. We chose to have the breakfast and we were not disappointed. It had fresh eggs, breads and croissants, cheeses and meats, yogurt, fresh fruit, and more.
What a wonderful place!
Absolute paradise, such a beautiful place. The hosts Philippe and Luce are amazing and make sure your stay is comfortable and relaxing. Luce is also an amazing cook (we had a meal cooked by her one night which was delicious!). The breakfast every morning is a true highlight (the best we had during our stay in France). The pool is just perfect and has stunning views across the gardens. We would definitely stay here again :).
Very friendly and helpful staff; we had many chats with them where they provided a lot of useful information about Nimes and the region. We liked the breakfast (e.g. bread and croisssants from neighborhood bakeries). The room was nice, especially the comfortable armchair. Location was also good, close to old town and walking distance to the main station. We will definitely stay there on our next trip to Nimes.
Friendly and helpful staff.
This hotel is well located 5 minutes from the motorway.
It offers secure parking which is free of charge. There is a bus service (no 7) just outside which will take you right into Nîmes centre, though the last bus back is at 20h.
The breakfast at 12€ was reasonable enough, supper good.
There is a good space to relax and take a coffee.
Room was clean and functional.
it was well equipped ( except for a corkscrew!) and had a washing machine but not a dryer. it was very well located for visiting sites in Nimes. Bed was very comfortable. close a patisserie where we bought croissants every morning. The owners were extremely nice and helpful in getting us to the apartment and with explaining how the parking garage worked.
The Location of the Hotel was very good. Situated right in the centre of Nîmes. The hotel parking garage was easy to access and offered many parking spots. The staff was helpful and friendly. The room was clean and big enough, but nothing fancy, but the Bathroom could be maintained better. The shower head needed some descaling but else clean enough.
We enjoyed this nice cozy place...very quiet...not far from Nîmes center...our bedroom/apartment was well appointed..clean and nicely decorated..Jean Jacques greeted us like we were family...thank you for making our stay so special Jean Jacques et
Lol Florence...if we go back to Nîmes we will definitely book La Chambre Haute again!!
Top rung hotel in a great location. The quirky caged lift was a nice touch evocative of the Belle Epoque period of late 19th early 20th century France in an otherwise modern hotel. Fine dining felt effortlessly part of the hotel’s ethos. First class wine list but as the saying goes, “if you need to ask the price…..”
Nice facilities with a good pool.
Excellent bed and bath facilities. Family friendly.
Elevators and aircons were good. Reception is 24h.
Hearty breakfast options.
Parking is safe and fantastic.
Location perfect for us - close to drive or uber to historical centre
Fantastic apartment conveniently located to everything! Can’t imagine a more ideal place for our time in Nîmes. We had a couple of questions and Philippe-Alexandre came over immediately! Couldn’t have asked for more helpful and kind staff.
Our stay was very enjoyable, the property was amazing and all guests were respectful to each others needs. Jean-Marie was a great host, I would return at anytime I’m back in the South of France loved our stay
The hotel is in a great location if you are needing to be close to the train station. And it's only a short walk to the arena and other attractions in Nimes.
No frills hotel! Super close to everything and somewhat of a discount for parking. I would recommend this hotel for a 1 night stay when visiting Nîmes.
